I define my work as abstract expressionist. It is loud, confronting, expressive and reactive. -- It often notifies figurative, sexual, cellular, and childlike images. I am interested in the way colors and shapes move in rhythm, similar to a composition. Although music influences my application it is not a composition --it can not be repeated once applied -- only experienced, or made new. Painting is a moment one hopes transcends the present. I have always felt to make art is a journey --- it is continuous.
I want to explore the uncertainty of our being at the core of our human experience -- creation, life and sexuality. I am interested in that internal swelling within all of us. That unseen secret diary, emotional and physical-- the rhythms that propel and motivate the desires within us. I see this simply as provocative visual music. Although highly personal the passion and fear aspects of being revealed is universal. Over the years my work, undulates between suggestive and purely abstract the internal .vs. the external experience.
I was born in Leeds, England. I grew up in Canada and Texas. I moved to New York City in 1983, and live and work in Brooklyn.
